The chemise is worn under all gowns, and bodice and skirts -- it is the Medieval/Renaissance equivalent to a blouse, slip, and nightgown. Chemises absorb the body's soils and leave less wear and tear on the outer garment which was usually more expensive. Our Irish Tara chemises come with a generous elastic at the neckline to wear on or off the shoulder, and have very full and long sleeves, which are trimmed in beautiful white lace.
